Pastoral Nominating CommitteeA Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) has been working for several months (since May 2002) to carry out the preparations for locating and calling a new pastor for Union Presbyterian Church. A major part of this process is the completion of a Church Information Form (CIF), used by our denomination to inform prospective candidates about the church’s history, our statistics, our accomplishments and programs, the make-up of our congregation and our vision for the future. Also included in the CIF are the key theological issues that we try to reflect in our ministry, and the primary responsibilities that will be placed on our new pastor. We have tried to define, as specifically as possible, the primary skills and experience we are looking for in the person who will lead us forward. As the committee has labored to complete this information, we have learned how difficult it is to describe briefly who we are, what kind of a church we want to be, and what we expect from our pastor. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, this important work has been accomplished. The committee has completed a draft of the CIF that was approved by the Session of UPC on August 15, 2002 and by Albany Presbytery's Committee on Ministry on August 20, 2002. Our CIF has been placed in the PCUSA data bank, and we are advertising the open position in denominational magazines. We are currently interviewing and evaluating pastoral candidates. We look forward to the opportunities and challenges that new leadership will bring, and we pray for God’s continued help in selecting the woman or man who will become our worship leader, spiritual advisor, and sister or brother in Christ. Members of the Pastoral Nominating Committee include Mark Opdyke (chair), Ruth Cotter, Clarence Countermine, Mary Delory, Catherine DePetrillo, Ruth Doering, Jennifer Hanson, Ronald Lindsay, Richard Rose and Gene Rowland. Our Committee on Ministry Liaison is Rev. Barbara Lucia.
